The St. Petersburg Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (SPb Branch of RAS) is committed to advancing science diplomacy and increasing the contribution of our institutions to the global scientific agenda. We aim to strengthen cooperation with international partners and support the integration of our scientific and educational organizations into the global scientific, technological, and innovation ecosystem.

Key Objectives of the SPb Branch of RAS International Activities

  • Establishing and strengthening ties: Developing sustainable, mutually beneficial partnerships with foreign academies of sciences, research and educational organizations, and industrial and expert communities in friendly countries.
  • Participation in scientific expertise: Contributing expert support to the evaluation of joint scientific programs and projects, as well as interstate targeted R&D programs.
  • Supporting policy-making: Assisting in the development and implementation of forward-looking plans in science and education, including efforts to harmonize regulations and create conditions for deeper integration of scientific and educational systems within the CIS.
  • Organizing international events: Hosting international congresses, symposia, conferences, seminars, and other events to foster scientific, educational, and cultural cooperation with friendly states.
  • Analyzing global scientific achievements: Monitoring and analyzing international scientific advances and preparing recommendations for their application in the interests of St. Petersburg, the Leningrad Region, and Russia.
  • Attracting international scientists: Engaging international researchers in scientific activities in St. Petersburg and supporting joint research initiatives.
  • Developing international initiatives: Supporting international initiatives of our institutions in cooperation with partners from the CIS, EAEU, SCO, BRICS, and other international associations.
  • Supporting young scientists: Promoting international collaboration among early-career researchers, supporting their involvement in science and technology entrepreneurship, and facilitating participation in international projects.

International Cooperation Department of the SPb Branch of RAS

The International Cooperation Department of the St. Petersburg Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences plays a key role in strengthening and expanding scientific partnerships with international counterparts. We work to create favorable conditions for the exchange of knowledge, experience, and technology, contributing to the development of global science and education.

 

Dmitry Arsenyev is Deputy Chair of the St. Petersburg Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (SPb Branch of RAS) and oversees the Branch’s international activities. He is also Vice-Rector for International Affairs at Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, where he is responsible for defining strategic priorities for international development, expanding global cooperation, and representing the university in relations with foreign and international organizations.

In his administrative and academic roles, he provides operational leadership for international activities, including the organization of recruitment, admission, and education for international students across all levels and formats. He also coordinates international educational and research initiatives and supports the development of long-term institutional partnerships.

Dmitry Arsenyev is a Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, and a Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences. His research interests focus on cyber-physical systems, intelligent control systems, adaptive control, and adaptive-stochastic computational processes. He is one of the founders of the scientific field of adaptive control of stochastic computational processes, and he has developed a new class of adaptive-stochastic methods widely used in the modeling and digital design of complex engineering systems.

He is the author of more than 200 scientific publications and eight monographs, including internationally published works with Springer, De Gruyter, and World Scientific. His contributions to science and higher education have been recognized by numerous national awards, including prizes from the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of St. Petersburg, as well as the honorary title “Distinguished Worker of Higher Education of the Russian Federation.”

 

 

Ekaterina Sokolova is an associate professor at the Institute of Energy(Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University) and the Head of the International Cooperation Department at the St. Petersburg Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (SPb Branch of RAS). She leads and supports international partnerships, develops academic exchange and English-taught programs, and organizes international conferences and networking initiatives.

She holds a PhD (Candidate of Technical Sciences) in Theoretical and Applied Heat Engineering and conducts research in thermal and nuclear power engineering, including desalination solutions for energy systems. She has authored around 50 scientific publications, many of them indexed in Scopus (including Q1 journals), and regularly participates in international conferences and research projects. Since 2021, she has headed the Center of Competencies for Advanced Nuclear Technologies in Sustainable Development and Energy Decarbonization, working with an international team of experts from Europe and Asia.

She founded the International Polytechnic Energy Academy, which brings together students and experts from 40+ countries in on-site and online formats. Her professional interests focus on energy systems, nuclear energy, and desalination technologies, with particular attention to sustainable development and decarbonization.

 

 

Anastasia Kabushka is a researcher with an interdisciplinary background in economics and international business (Germany) and legal education (Russia). She has professional experience in academia, the public sector, and international corporations, including roles at Galderma, Nespresso, and Siemens, as well as work as a Digital Data Analyst at hamburg.de GmbH & Co. KG(Hamburg, Germany). She began her PhD research at the SVI Endowed Chair of Dialogue Marketing, University of Hamburg, and continues her doctoral research at Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University.

Her academic and professional interests focus on marketing, marketing communications, networking, and international cooperation.
